At the paths of Winnetou. In quite a lot of regions of Croatia the movies of Winnetou has been filmed. So we took the chance to visit the country once. Flying to the Makarska Riviera, for a duration of one week, we wanted to have some relaxing days in the sun as well as exploring the old cities and national parks. So after a first relaxing day, we visited the Krk national parc. Apart from the impressive, but very touristy waterfall, it’s an impressive biotope. Frogs, fishes, snakes, everyting :-). Crystal clear water, paths in between wow. You should definetly make the 1h walk to the waterfall. There is shade all over so don’t worry about the sun. On the way back we drove along the coast and did make a stop at the old town of Split. The palace of Diokletian, which is the most named highlight at split, is nice to see, but the rest of the old town, the small passages in between have been the main highlight for us. Very impressive. If you’re hungry you should try pita with some so tartar sauce. The next day we drove to Dubrovnik. Because the way has been quite long, we did make a 1.5h break at a small bay and went swimming. The whole Makarska Riviera has quite a lot of small bays, so you’ll find one for yourself easily. We passsed the wonderful Neretva-Delta, a small part of Bosnia-Herzegovina(which is the only part of the whole country which is at the ocean) and reached Dubrovnik. The big Franjo-Tuđman-Bridge welcomes you and you’ll see huge cruise liners at the harbour. We drove directly to the old town and started exploring every part. You can easily imagine why the “Pearl of the adria” did have some very important time. The way along the Stradun, the main alley, with the old buildings( and the expensive shops inside) let’s you know why the UNESCO did explain the place as world cultural heritage. It’s a must to visit it. So next day has been for relaxing too, so that the day after did guide us to the plitvice lakes national parc. After a 3h trip along the highway, we reached the parc at 10a.m. .Not sure on which place we should enter the park, we drove till parking area 1. From there you can start hiking and visit most of the highlights. The first thing you see is the impressive waterfall(Veliki Slap). In front of the waterfall there is a small lake, which has been the lake at the movie “Treasure of Silver Lake“. So say hello to Winnetou. The first footbridge on the way to the waterfall is like a dream. The water flows around you in all direction, you can watch the fishes in all deeps, it’s total unnaturally, at least for city people. The walk let’s you cross the Galovac waterfall, the caves nearby, quite a lot of small lakes till you reached the Kozjak lake, where you can drive with electric boats till a spot near parking area 2. From there you can walk northwards and explore the unnatural landscapes once again( but it’s much more crowdy there). At the end of the walk( you should try the route C, which is about 4-6h), you can drive the way back with the national parc buses. Our last highlight has been the old town of Trogir. The whole town is based on a small island, and is part of the world cultural heritage too. The small alleys and buildings do look similar to them from Split and Dubrovnik, apart from the amount of restaurants. You got the feeling there is one restaurant after the other. The fort Kamerlengo has been built up by the venetians, and did protect them for revolts. So at then of our trip the time has been too fast over as usual, but the highlights are really worth to visit.
