Autumn. “Wet season” has been started. Not the best time for all of us. I do like much more sunny days, with bright light till late at night. So, to make it short, we just decided to travel to Florida. Almost no rainy days, no midgest with tropical diseases, and quite a lot to see. After we arrived at the Orlando international airport, we started a round trip the next day. Our first destination has been the Kennedy Space Center(KSC). On the way we saw a few dolphins and alligators. Nice start. The KSC is a pretty huge complex, where you can explore the whole US aerospace. A lot of attractions, for all ages, does spend you a full day there easily. Embedded in a nature preserve, this area is almost untouched. Nice for flora and fauna. A must do is definedly a drive with the spaceship simulator. At the end of the day you got the feeling that human kind has the power to do everything(at least in the american way 🙂 ). After a night at the Cocoa Beach, we did drive further to Fort Lauderdale. We also spend a couple of hours at Vero Beach, to swim and relax. As we reached Fort Lauderdale, we started also our shopping tour. The oulet Sawgrass Mills, has plenty of shops, for everyone. So 2,5h later, we did spend a lot of time and money, but hey we’re on vacation. At the evening we took a water taxi, and made a round trip to the city centry and back. Huge villas and hundrets of small canals do split the whole area in a unique flair. On the next day we explored Miami Beach and Miami. The Ocean Drive at Miami Beach is not that big, as i did expect, there are also not hundrets of oldtimer around as i hoped. It’s basically a street close to the beach with a lot of buildings(hotels, restaurants) in the art déco style. I mean yes it’s nice to be there once, but there is nothing spectaular in the way that i wanna be there as much as i can. So after making at least quite a lot of nice pictures, and did relay a couple of hours at the beach, we drove to Miami and took a ride with the Peolpe Mover. This train does run in a loop, free of charge, and cou can explore the city a little bit. Well, Miami has nothing spectacular either, it’s basically a typical town in the US, but nothing in comparison to cities like NY or SF. Our next destination have been the Florida Keys. Out nice accomodation has been at at Isla Morada(http://www.fla-keys.com/islamorada/), a island in the middle of the keys. From there you can easily make day trips to both directions. Starting early in the morning, we drove to Key West, where you can find the southern most point of the US. on the way we did make a long break at the Bahia Honda State Park. It’s a small nature preserver, where you can go snorkeling or just relax on a sandy beach(which are only a few available the the keys). Key West is pretty famous for the southern most point of the US, as well as for the home of Hemmingway. There are also quite a lot of old buildings, nice to see, as well as some “extraordinary” people, hanging around. Key West is also a place from the hippie culture. A funny place actually. After days at the keys we reached the Everglades NP. There are 2 main roads trought the park. The one in the south(Ingraham Hwy – which guides you till Flamingo, a small place, which offers only a campground and nothing more) does have the officials entry, as well as a few small walks to go, where you can explore the natural habitat of flora and fauna in the Everglades. In this whole area we saw only one alligator, but at least a few snakes and of course a lot of birds. The other road in the north(Tamiami Trail) guides youto the west side of Florida. On the way you can make a stop at the Shark Valley Visitor Center, and make a trip with a small train trough the area, and/or make a night over at Everglades City, to make a pretty cool trip with an Air Boat. So we stayed 2 nights at Everglades City, and made actually 2 trips with an Air Boat, at 2 different locations. one in the mangroves, the other one at the swamp land. That was really fun. We could do that every day. Basically one trip does take 1h, and if you’re lucky you see some alligators. The main thing is the drive. Unfortunately there are a lot of companies who feed the alligators or other wildlife, so hopefully nature does survive the commerce. Next day we drove to Fort Myers Beach. It’s a good place to explore Sanibel Island and surroundings. Not all of the hotels there are just cheap accomodations for having fun. We stayed in the south and did really enjoy the white sandy beach. So after a relaxing day at the beach we made a trip to Sanibel Island(http://www.fortmyers-sanibel.com/). This island is pretty famous for their plenty amount of shells in different sizes. We did collect hours :-). At Sanible Island is also the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, which can be explored for 10$ by car. We saw many birds and a few alligators. Next day we drove to the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. A museum and a lot of information about their connected lifes can be found there. very interesting. Our trip went further on with a small stop at Tampa. We just wend swimming there and did made another stop at an outlet center(There are plenty of them in Florida). So our roud trio has almost been finished, as we reached Orlando again. But we had 3 more days, to explore at least 2 atraction parks, Disney World Magic Kingdom and Universal Studios. Magic Kingdom has been the first Disney park in history, and it’s definitely a must to visit. It’s like an illusion. The ideal world exists in this park. Your lucky the whole day. The whole park has been planned and organized in perfection, so although it’s visit be thousands of people every day, the fast ticket system, which is included in the entrace fee, gives you the opportunity to explore tha park in a very efficient way. We’ve been there from 9 a.m. till 7:30 p.m. and we did enjoy every minute. Every attraction is suitable for kids, apart from a few regulation about their height(Kids from an age of 4/5 can drive with all attractions). For adults the haunted house is a must see. The Goofy Ride at Fantasyland, as well as the roller coaster and the water slide at Frontierland are must dos for kids. After this fantastic day we explored the Universal Studios. It’s also a nice place to visit, but it’s hard to to after a visit of Magic Kingdom. If you have been at the Unuiversal Studios in Los Angeles, you’ve seen a lot of attractions already. The park is also not that big. Anyway you can explore a lot of another attractions, like the Transformer Ride or the rollercoaster Rock’it. Fans of the Simpson can enjoy Springfield. Most of the attractions are playing with moveable vehicles as well as with 3D(stereo), so there are equal in the way of how you explore them. So after these 2 days, we finished our trip in Florida, and did enjoy almost everything very much. We think about coming back to Orlando one day, to visit other parks, maybe as a stop over while flying to the caribbean sea. Well we’ll see.

Der Herbst mag den ein oder anderen erfreuen, mich deprimiert immer die kommende Dunkelheit, sowie der viele Regen. Viel lieber bin ich doch in warmen Gefilden. Wo kann man im Oktober ins Warme fliegen, keinen großen Regen erwarten und sich nicht vor Malaria und Co schützen müssen? Florida. Immer warm, die tropischen Regenstürme sind eigentlich im Oktober schon fast komplett vorbei und man kann viel erleben. Ja das war es dann. Nachdem ein Flug nach Orlando gebucht war(und der über Miami billiger war, als wenn man nur nach Miami fliegt…) wurde eine Rundreise geplant. In Orlando spät abends angekommen, ging es am nächsten Tag nach Cape Canaveral. Das Kennedy Space Center erwartete uns. Auf dem Weg dort hin konnte man das Mautsystem kennenlernen. Wenn man keine Sun Ticket erworben hatte, so musste man aller ein paar Meilen zahlen. Nun ja so kannte ich das auch noch nicht. Auf den letzten Meilen vor dem KSC sahen wir eine Gruppe Delphine im Meer schwimmen, sowie die ersten kleineren Alligatoren sonnenbaden. Ein guter Start. Das KSC ist ein großer Komplex, wo man die Anfänge der Raumfahrt, sowie aktuelle Missionen kennenlernen kann. Das ganze Areal steht unter Naturschutz, was sich in der regen Flora und Fauna wiederspiegelt. Alles sehr schön gemacht, Für groß(3D-Kinos, Raumschiffstartsimulator) und klein(Angry Birds) ist was dabei. Am Ende des Besuches ist man echt stolz was die Menschheit bisher geschafft hat. nach einer Übernachtung am Cocoa Beach, fuhren wir nach Fort Lauderdale. Unterwegs machten wir eine halt in Vero Beach um zu baden und eventuell eine Schildkröte zu sehen. Leider war die Brut-Saison schon fast vorbei, so das uns keine zu Gesicht kam. In Fort Lauderdale besuchten wir ein Outlet (Sawgrass Mills) und fuhren mit dem Wassertaxi einmal in die Innenstadt und zurück. Die Kanäle und Villen sind sehr schön anzusehen, auch wenn der Reichtum mancher Menschen schon fast ein bisschen erdrückend ist. Den nächsten Tag machten wir einen Ausflug nach Miami und Miami Beach. Miami selber ist eine typische amerikanische Großstadt. Zugebaut, viele Hochhäuser und viel Beton. Das einzige Interessante ist vielleicht eine Fahrt mit dem People Mover, eine Schwebebahn welche kostenlos durch den Stadtring fährt. Maimi Beach is da schon schöner anzusehen. Einmal den Ocean Drive entlangfahren, und die Art Déco Häuser bewundern. Ich hatte gedacht ich sehe mehr Oldtimer, aber habe leider nur 2 auf Foto bannen können. Da muss ich wohl echt mal nach Kuba 🙂 . Der Ocen Drive ist auch gar nicht so land, und der Strand sieht nicht anders aus, als wie an der gesamten Ostküste. Man war mal da, aber viele Hotels kann ich auch woanders “bewundern”. Da war Fort Lauderdale echt schöner. Am nächsten Tag fuhren wir bis nach Isla Morada, eine Insel auf den Flordia Keys(http://www.fla-keys.com/islamorada/). Die Insel leigt relativ mittig, so das wir am nächsten Tag einen Ausflug nach Key West machten. Unterwegs legten wir eine Stopp in bahia Honda State Park ein. Dort soll man gut schnorcheln können, was uns leider nicht gelungen ist, da das Wetter zu windig war. Es gab aber wenigstens einen schönen Strand; einen der wenige auf den gesamten Kesy überhaupt! In Key West haben wir uns natürlich zuerste den südlichsten Punkt der USA angeschaut, auch wenn wir definitiv nicht die einzigen waren… .Die Stadt bietet schöne alte Häsuer, unter anderem das von Ernst Hemmingway(Museum). Ansonsten ist die Stadt ziehmlich skurill. Viele “Verrückte” tummeln sich in Key West. Aufjedenfall lustig anzusehen. Nach 2 Tagen auf den Keys zog es uns Richtung Everglades Nationalpark. Zuerste ging es von Homestead aus auf den Ingraham Hwy. Nach dem Eingang des Parkes gibt es verschiedene kleine Walks zu bewältigen, von denen keiner wirklich anstrenged oder lang ist. Man sieht sehr viele Vögel, einige Schildkröten und Schlangen, sowie die typische Landschaft des wassereichen Überschwemmungsgebietes. Alligatoren sieht man je nach Jahreszeit mehr oder weniger. Wir haben dort gerade einmal einen gesehen. Nach diversen Wanderungen fuhren wir zurück nach Homestead um von dort aus auf den Tamiami Trail zu fahren. Dieser führt direkt durch die Everglades vin and die Westküste. Unser Ziel war aber vorher Everglades City. Unterwegs machten wir noch einen kleinen halt am Shark Valley Visitor Center, und sahen fast alles ausser Alligatoren ;-). Nach einer Nacht im Everglades City Motel machten wir einen Ausflug mit einem AirBoat. Sehr sehr cool, Es macht echt sehr viel Spass so über das Wasser und zwischen den Mangroven zu fahren. Wir sahen Alligatoren und hatten echt viel Spass. Da wir die 1h Fahrt so toll fanden, machten wir bei einem anderen Anbieten für die Hälfte des Preises(Discount Mentalität sei Dank) ncoheinmal eine Fahrt. Diesmal durch die Graslandschaft. Am Ende des Tages waren wir echt gut drauf und liessen uns im Restaurant Alligator schmecken… . Der folgende Tag führte uns nach Fort Myers Beach. Von dort aus kann man schöne Ausflüge machen, unter anderem nach Sanibel Island(http://www.fortmyers-sanibel.com/). Dies Insel ist sehr berühmt für Ihre Vielzahl an Muscheln, welche angespült werden. Wir haben stundenlang gesammelt. Ein weiteres Ziel ist die Wintereresidenz von Thomas Edison und Henry Ford. Nach 2 Tagen führte uns der Weg nach Tampa, Unterwegs nahmen wir mal wieder ein Outletcenter mit, und badeten im Golf von Mexiko. Nach diesem kurzen Stopp in Tampa fuhren wir wieder zurück nach Orlando. Uns erwartete ein Besuch im Magic Kingdom Park und in den Universal Studios. World Disney World, und der allererste Park, Magic Kingdom, ist die Illusion schlecht hin. Die wunderbar heile Welt erfüllt Ihren zweck in Minuten. Man lässt sich fallen und ist einfach nur glücklich. Alle Mitarbeiten vermitteln Glück und Freude pur, und die Attraktionen sind wirklich bis zum kleinsten Detail gestaltet. Für jede Familie ein Muss! Alle Attraktionen sind für Kinder geeignet. Einige wenige benötigen zwar eine Mindeshöhe, aber ab 4-5 Jahre sollten das die meisten Kinder erreicht haben. Wir waren von früh um 9Uhr bis abends 1930Uhr im Park, und wir haben jede Minute genossen. Klar manches war schon übertrieben kitschig, aber das meiste war echt super. Empfehlenswert für die Erwachsenen ist auf jeden Fall das Geisterschloss. Das beste was ich je gesehen habe. Den Kleinen wird die Achterbahn von Goofy(Fantasyland), sowie die Achterbahn und Wasserrutsche im Frontierland gefallen. Der nächste Tag wurde komplett den Universal Studios gewidmet. Auch ein sehr schöner Park, kam aber an die “Heile Welt” Illusion von WDW nicht heran. Auch wer schon einmal in Los Angeles in den Universal Studios war, wird vieles schon kennen, bzw. merken das der Park schon bedeutend kleiner ist. Nichts desto trotz sind die Attraktionen alle samt super, vor allem der Transformers Ride und die Achterbahn. Auch Fans von den Simpsons werden durch den Nachbau von Springfiled auf Ihre Kosten kommen. Insgesamt waren die Attraktionen nur nicht ganz so abwechslungsreich, 3D Brillen sowie bewegliche Fahrzeuge sind so der Standard bei fast allen Attraktionen. Wie man sieht hat Florida so einiges zu bieten, und ist eigentlich auch fast nicht schaffbar in 2 Wochen. Wir hätten uns gerne in Orlando noch weitere Parks angeschaut, aber was nicht ist kann ja noch werden :-).
