4th time visiting USA. Yes the country is huge and there are thousand of things to see. This time it shouldn’t be a long trip apart from the exhibition in Vegas, just a small one day trip to the death valley and then back to germany. But then, as usual, things doesn’t come the way you want…. . Death Valley a place where no one can live and nothing happened? Well there is still a lot to see. The deepest point in the western hemisphere, and the deepest point in the USA with about 85.5m below sea level is in the south of the Death Valley. A huge salt crusted area, quite hot in summer and with a spectacular landscape. After a short trip to the Hoover Dam i went the next day to the Valley of Fire. It’s in the north of Vegas and a typical spot of Vegas tourists for a one day trip. Well it’s quite nice there, Cause it’s like an appetizer for all the national parks around. Amazing rock formations in hundreds of colors impress everyone. There are also some small arches which might be a foretaste of the Arches NP. After these two days there should be normally my flight back to germany but there was a small vulcano, named Eyjafjallajökull, which does erupt quite a lot of smoke into the sky, so i had to break for one week in chicago. Well it could have been worse. I haven’t been in Chicago the time before so i experienced a new location in the states. “The Windy City” is a damned good paraphrase for Chicago. It has been pretty cold and windy for my taste, i just came from Vegas… . Chicago has a lot of attractions. Apart from many succesfull sport teams, Chicago Bulls(Basketbal), Chicago Bears(American Football), Chicago Cups(Baseball), Chicago Blackhawks(Ice Hockey), Chicago White Sox(Baseball), Chicago Wolves(Ice Hockey) and Chicago Fire(Fußball)), the city has a architectural history as well as a jazz living culture, The great fire in 1871, destroyed almost the whole city, so rebuilding the city became a architectural master stroke. You can find 2 skyscrapers in chicago, where you have an awesome view above the city. The third biggest buidling in the world, Willis Tower( f.k.a. Sears Tower), and the John Hancock Center. A boat trip across the Chicago River lets you see some very different perspectives. The Millenium Park with art from Frank Gehry and the Grant Park with the famouse Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain, which knows everyone who knows Al Bundy, are must sees in Chicagon.

Das 4.Mal in den USA. Ja das Land ist groß und es gibt unendlich viele Sehenswürdigkeiten. Diesmal sollte es eigentlich nur ein kurzer Ausflug zum Death Valley werden, aber irgendwie kam ein gewisser Vulkanausbruch dazwischen :-). Das Death Valley, das Tal des Todes, liegt in einer eingebetteten Ebene, unter dem Meeresspiegel. Der tiefste Punkt der westliche Hemisphäre befindet sich im südlichen Teil des Death Valley bei einer Teife von 85,5m. Eine riesige Salzwüste mitten im Nichts. Verdammt heiss im Sommer, also genug Wasser mitbringen. Neben einem Abstecher zum Hoover Dam ging es auch nochmal zum Valley of Fire. Das Valley of Fire liegt im Nordosten von Las Vegas und ist eines der Naturattraktionen welche sozusagen für den typischen 1/2-1 Tagestrip eines Las Vegas Besuchers reichen soll. Nichtsdestotrotz ist der Park absolut eine Reise wert. Atembreaubende Felsformationen und ein fantastisches Farbenmeer erfüllen den Besucher dieses Parks mit Freude. Es gibt verschiedene Picknickmöglichkeiten und der Park gibt sogar einen kleinen Vorgeschmack auf den Arches NP mit seinen vielen natürlichen Bögen. Nachdem eigentlich dieses Jahr meine Reise von Las Vegas aus direkt nach Deutschland zurückgehen sollten, hatte eine gewisser Eyjafjallajökull etwas dagegen. Dieser isländische Vulkan liess mich 1 ganze Woche länger in den USA verweilen. Ich hatte Glück und konnte mir dadurch sogar etwas neues anschauen, Chicago. “The Windy City”, wie sie auch ganz gerne genannt wird, macht Ihrem Namen alle Ehre. Es war verdammt kalt und windig, ich kam doch grad aus der Wüste von Las Vegas… . Chicago hat einiges zu bieten. Neben vielen erfolgreichen Sportmannschaften, Chicago Bulls(Basketbal), Chicago Bears(American Football), Chicago Cups(Baseball), Chicago Blackhawks(Eishockey), Chicago White Sox(Baseball), Chicago Wolves(Eishockey) und Chicago Fire(Fußball)) hat die Stadt eine architektonisch historische Geschichte als auch eine jazzorientierte Musikkultur. Durch das große Feuer von 1871 wurde fast ganz chicago vernichtet, so das es zu einer architektonische Meisterleistung kam. Neben dem mittlerweilen dritthöchsten Gebäude der Welt, Willis Tower( ehemals Sears Tower) gibt es das John Hancock Center, von denen man super Aussichten über die gesamte Stadt bekommt. Eine Fahrt über den Chicago River belohnt mit völlig anderen Perspektiven. Der Millenium Park ist eine architektonische Meisterleistung von Frank Gehry und der Grant Park belohnt mit der berühmten Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain, die jeder aus dem Vorspann von Al Bundy kennt.
