Corfu, green island. One oft the greenest islands of greece, and situated close to Albania, Corfu ist one of the most attractive tourist spots in europe. Doesn’t sound that nice for untouched nature, but that’s not true. A lot of small villages along the coasts, embedded in mountainy landscapes, will touch your heart. Agios Georgios in the south, has one of the few sandy beaches. Fantastic mountains in the back country and a couple of agencies, where you can rent anything you want to have fun on the water, let you enjoy your stay there. Renting a boat is one of the best possibilities to run along the coast, while watching the natures ambience. Exploring the island by car will be the best for you, if you want to decide where to go and what to see. Along the west coast, past lagunes, who will remember you on moutain lakes, you can drive till Sidari, a village at the north point of Corfu. Distances are not that far, but the road does not allow you to drive fast, whyever by that nature. Sidari lets you remeber at the algarve of Potugal, cause the sandstone cliffs are looking very equal to that ones. Canal d’Amour is an attractive nature tunnel, where lovely couples should swim trough, to be one for ever, the legend tells… . East coast is much more touristy and with corfu town(Kerkyra) there is also the biggest town of the island there. Kerkyra has a nice historic district and lets you travel to other destinations apart from the airport also by boat. From the harbour you have a nice view to the old and new fortress and apart from the big cruise liners you can make a trip to albanie, which is close by. Seranda, as albanian destination might be just another created touristic place, cause it looks like a spanish tourist spot from the seventies, but to visit albanie once, you can give it a try. Most of the travel agencies offering a trip to albanie in combination with a visit to Burint, an excavation site. Nothing spectecular for expereinced visitors, but the nature is breathtaking. So Corfu has more than beaches to relax so everyone can visit it at least once.

Korfu, die grüne Insel. Als eine der vegetativsten Inseln Griechenlands erstreckt sie sich an der Straße von Korfu, nur 2km von der albanischen Küste entfernt. Als eine der attraktivtsne Inseln für Pauschaltouristen, klingt sie auf den ersten Blick sehr überrant, aber mitnichten. Viele Kleine Orte, eingebettet in die teilweise recht gebirgische Landschaft lassen einem das Herz erblühen. Agios Georgios, im Süden der Insel bietet eine der wenigen Möglichkeiten vor atemberaubender Kulisse in den Genuss eines Sandstrandes zu kommen. Diverse Wassersportmöglichkeiten werden von einigen Anbietern ermöglicht. Mit einem ausgeliehenem Boot lässt es sich wunderschön an der Küste entlang fahren und die Landschaft geniessen, oder man hat die Möglichkeit das Boot nahe dem Ufer zu ankern und zum Strand hinüberzuschwimmen. Unser Hotel, das Aquis Sandy Beach Resort, lag direkt an diesem Strand und war für Kinder sehr gut geeignet. Sowohl ein Kinderspielplatz, Animation als auch Pool und Essen( es gab einen exklusiven Abschnitt, wo es nur ein Kinderbuffet gab, und auch Tische und Stühle nur für Kinder geeignet waren) waren echt gut gelungen. Mit einem Mietwagen lässt sich die Insel auf einfachste Weise erkunden. Vorbei an einigen Lagunen, welche an Bergseen erinnern, durch bergige Kulisse und Kieselstrand, kann man entlang der Westküste über Terpentin bis nach Sidari fahren. Die Entfernungen sind nicht weit, aber die Strecken lassen es nicht zu zügig voran zukommen, warum auch bei der Natur. Sidari, im Norden der Insel, erinnert mit seinen zerklüfteten Sandsteinklippen stark an die Algarve von Portugal. Der Canal d’Amour, ein kleiner natürlicher Felstunnel, soll Verliebte der Legende nach für immer verbinden, wenn sie durch ihn schwimmen. Die Ostküste ist etwas touristischer und auch mit Korfu-Stadt( Kerkyra) befindet sich auch der größte Ort auf dieser Hälfte. Kerkyra hat eine schöne Altstadt und bieten nebem dem Flughafen auch noch Reisen mittels Schiff an. Riesige Kreuzfahrtschiffe findet man im Hafen, von dem man einen schönen Blick auf alte und neue Festung bekommt. Lohnenswert, zumindest um einmal dort gewesen zu sein, ist ein Trip nach Albanien, und zwar nach Saranda. Diese kleine, aber schon touristisch mit Wolkenkratzern verbaute Örtchen, ist der direkteste Weg, um einmal Albanien von Korfu aus zu besuchen. Meist in Verbindung mit Butrint, einer alten Ausgrabungsstätte im Hinterland, werden diverse Tagestouren angeboten. Butrint selber bietet für erfahrene Besucher von Ausgrabungsstätten nichts neues, die Landschaft dagegen ist wunderschön anzusehen, da Butrint auf einer Halbinsel gelegen ist, und die Vegetation ausgesprochen anschaulich. Korfu hat also einiges zu bieten, und muss sich nicht dem Charme eines Touriplätzchens hingeben.
