Cyprus, the splitted island. Known for many people as one of the greek islands, which isn’t actually true, cause it’s an own country, cyprus can be found at the south east of the Mediterranean, close to Turkiye. Since 1974, the occupation ot Turkiye in the northern area of the island has splitted the island into 2 parts. Still being seperated, the political tension has been less strong since in 2008 people can move between the borders again. Nikosia resp. Lefkosia as capital of the country, is splittet in the middle, as it was Berlin in the cold war. The “green line” winds through the town and has been established as a puffer zone thorugh the whole country. Apart from the political situation, cyprus has to offer a few things more. Although landscape isn’t that spectacular, most of the area is just try and bleak, the Troodos Mountains, in the middle of the island, offer lush green, and a few mounts scratching at the 2000m marks. Hiking there can be fantastic fun, also with kids, if select one the nice spots. For us, the Kaledonia waterfalls, has been one of these spots. Starting at Kyros Potamos, the 2km distance walk is pretty adventure like, cause you have to cross a river a couple of times, and the natural path is almost untouched, so our 3y old child did have quite a lot of fun( Not to be feasable via buggy). The small walk around the Troodos information centre, as well as the old monastery Kykkos can be a visiting spot as well. Out hotel has been located in the south eastern part of the island, close to Trinity Beach. Unfortunatetly this areas had not to offer much, so our normal desiscion renting a car, wasn’t just an option, it has been a must. Driving along the coasts, you can find around Ayia Napa quite a lot of bays, where you can go swiming and relaxing. Families will love it there. Between Prostaras and Ayia Napa you can found the Capo Greco national parc, which offers apart from the terrific view from the cape, some natural caves. At sunset or sunrise you should definitely go there. One other interesting spot has been definitely the Hala Sultan Tekke( Mosque of Umm Haram ), close to Larnaca. Located at the border of a huge salt lake, the Mosque contains the shrine of Hala Sultan, which has been the wet nurse of the prophet Muhammad and the wife of Ubada bin al-Samit.
Apart from the few things, which i mentioned here, the country did not offer a lot of interesting things for us, so you can visit it, but it’s definitely not a “Must See” spot.

Zypern, die geteilte Insel. Durch Unwissenheit von vielen auch als griechische Insel gehalten, liegt Zypern im südöstlichsten Teil des Mittelmeeres. Seit 1974 ist diese Insel durch die Besatzung der Türkei im Nordteil der Insel geteilt. Seit April 2008 wurden die Grenzen gelockert, so das Zypern auch für Touristen wieder interessanter geworden ist. In Nikosia bzw. Lefkosia, als Hauptstadt der Republik Zypern, lässt sich das geteilte Land “live” miterleben. Die “grüne Linie” schlängelt sich durch die Stadt, und stellt eine Pufferzone im ganzen Land dar. Doch neben der politischen Situation hat Zypern noch mehr zu bieten. Obwohl die Landschaft insgesamt als sehr karg und öde zu bezeichnen ist, so erhebt sich doch im Zentrum der Insel das Troodosgebirge empor. Saftiges Grün und Berge die fast 2000m erreichen laden zum wandern ein. Uns verschlug es zu den Kaledonia Wasserfällen (Wanderweg „Kaledonia“ – von Kryos Potamos aus). Der etwa zwei Kilometer Wanderweg geht im wahrsten Sinne über Stock und Stein und hat unserem Kind mit knapp 3 Jahren großen Spass gemacht( Für Kinderwagen und Co ungeeignet). Ansonsten lohnt sich noch der kleine Weg entlang des Troodos Informationszentrum, sowie das Kloster Kykkos. Unser Hotel befand sich im südöstlichen Teil der Insel, in der Nähe von Trinity Beach. Leider war diese Region sehr abgelegen und ein Mietwagen war schon eher ein Muss als eine Option. Da wir sowieso immer einen Mietwagen aus Mobilitätsgründen bevorzugen, buchten wir diesen halt fast die gesamte Reisezeit. Das Capo Greco, welches zwischen Prostaras und Ayia Napa, zu finden ist, lädt ein um in frühen Morgenstunden den Sonnenaufgang, oder umgekehrt zu später Stunden Sonnenuntergang geniessen möchte. Der Blick ist fantastisch und man kann bei guter Sicher fast die gesamte Insel überblicken. Nebenan hat das Meer an den Klippen tiefe Höhlen in die Sandsteine getragen, welche auch sehr schön anzuschauen sind und zum Nationalpark Capo Greco gehören. Die Badebuchten rund um Ayia Napa sind zwar sehr gut besucht, aber für Familien mit Kindern sehr willkommen. Wir waren relative oft mit dem Mietwagen dort, da unser Strand vor ort eher nicht das Mass aller Dinge war. Erwähneneswert war aufjedenfall noch die Hala Sultan Tekke Moschee, in der Nähe von Larnaca. Direkt vor einem riesigem Salzsee erhebt sich diese Moschee als eines der wichtigsten Heiligtümer des Islam. Dort soll der Geschichte nach die Tante des Propheten Mohammed begraben sein. Insgesamt war der urlaub auf Zypern war ganz nett, so richtige Highlights(gerade was die Natur angeht) haben sich für uns auf der Insel aber nicht weiter eingestellt.
