London 2012. Games of the XXX Olympiad. I’ve been part of it. Since i was working as a service provider, basically virtual graphics for the host broadcaster, i could be a part of the olympic games. My work was only for athletics, so i missed quite a lot of all the other events, apart from the problem getting tickets… . London has been definetly one of the best places for the olympic games. If you wouldn’t know it, people didn’t even recognize the fact. London is busy anyway so there is no difference. London did succesfully recreate a social critical area, so they used most of the finance investements to renew the east district Stratford. Actually they did very well. The olympic village looks nice and the olympic parc and the huge shopping centre( “Westfield” ) is really a spot you can visit, but what’s the advantage for peopel who lived there? I don’t think they will have the money for these things, so at the end people will be moved to other districts…. . Anyway i don’t wanna start a political discussion here… . Most of the time i was sitting in a container, next to the stadium. But at several times i could be within the stadium so i took the chance to watch the 100m of the mens final live, which has been absolutely fantastic. Just before the start it is totally quiet and then the massive noise of the audience, unbelievable. I mean the ambience within a stadium is always different, than watching games just in front of the tv, but the 100m are really special. So apart from working i took several times the chance to visit some places where i haven’t been before. So i did visit the Regents Parc as well as the Hyde Parc. Well nice but not really special. May i have seen too much parcs in my life… . A ride with the London Eye is fantastic, cause a single ride is about 35minutes, so don’t think about the price, it’s worth it. We took also a short trip to Greenwhich, where the parc and observatory was closed unfortunately, but the area around and the way through the financial district is worthwhile.

Vom 25. Juli bis 12. August 2012 fanden in London die 30.olympischen Spiele statt. Ich hatte das Glück einmal dabei zu sein. Als Dienstleister gebucht, und zuständig für die virtuelle Grafik im Broadcastbereich, war ich für Leichtathletik zuständig. Mein Einsatzort war logischerweise das Stadion, auch wenn ich vorwiegend in einem Container direkt davor saß. London ist definitiv ein erprobter Austragungsort für solch ein Großevent. Wenn es die Werbung nicht überall herumposaunt hätte, wäre den meisten Menschen in und um London gar nicht aufgefallen das die olympischen Spiele stattfinden. Die Stadt ist einfach permanent einem riesigem Menschenansturm ausgesetzt. Naja wer kennt nicht London. In Londons Olympiabewerbung hieß es, das 2012 die nachhaltigsten Spiele überhaupt werden sollten. Der von Arbeitslosigkeit und Industriebrachen geprägter Ostlondoner Stadtteit Startfort sollte komplett erneuert und aufgebessert werden. Ja es wurde viel kontaminiertes Erdreich abgetragen, ja die Verkehrsverbindung ist mehr als hervorragend, ja das olympische Dorf ist sehr schick geworden. Die Frage bleibt nur was nützt dies all den dort wohnenden Sozialfällen? Das riesige Shoppingcenter( “Westfield”) ist ein Konsumtempel schelcht hin und auch die Wohnungen im olympischen Dorf werden sich wohl die wenigsten Ansässigen leisten können. Das Areal an sich ist aufgewertet, die dort lebenden Menschen werden wohl aber bloss umgesiedelt so das ein neuer “alter” Stadtteil entsteht… . Das abver nur am Rande. Der Olympiapark war großzügig angelegt und ich hatte auch einmal die Gelegenheit diese komplett zu “durchwandern”. Leider gab es keine Möglichkeiten mir andere Sportevents anzuschauen so das ich mich mit Leichtathletik zufrieden geben musste. Ehrlich gesagt was ich nie der große Zuschauer beinm Weitsprung oder 5000m Lauf. Die Athmosphäre ist aber trotzdem sehr überwältigend. In Erinnerung ist mir aufjedenfall der 100m Lauf der Männer geblieben, wo ich die Chance hatte live dabei zu sein. Todenstille und danach ein Explosionsfeuer von 80000 Menschen. Wahnsinn. Abseits von Olympia habe ich noch einige Abstecher zu diversen Sehenswürdigkeiten gemacht. Einmal mit dem LondonEye fahren. Echt lohnenswert da eine Runde ca. 35Minuten dauert und man einen Rundumblick über London bekommt. Der Greenwhich Park wäre sicherlich auch lohnenswert gewesen, wenn nich alles durch Olympia abgesperrt gewesen wäre. Aufjedenfall war die Zugfahrt dorthin und auch das Finanzzentrum einen Besuch wert. Reagents Park und Hyde Park habe ich auch noch mitgenommen, auch wenn es dort für mich nicht soviel spektakuläres gab. Ich habe anscheinend schon zu viele Parks in meinem Leben gesehen.
